ROMANIA - OVERVIEW

Submitted by webmaster on Fri, 2009-08-07 08:33.

Old kingdom of the Dacians, colonized by the Romans in the 2-nd century A.C., situated in the South-Eastern Europa, Romania preserves even today unique testimonies regarding the Roman presence, mostly in what concerns its Neolatin language.

Romania has a surface of 237500 sq.km., a population of 22760449 inhabitants (1992), among which 88.1% Romanians. The capital is Bucharest (with a population of 2064474 inhabitants in 1992). From the administrative point of view, Romania is divided in 41 districts, parts of nine old historical provinces (Maramures, Bucovina, Moldova, Transilvania, Crisana, Banat, Oltenia, Muntenia and Dobrogea).

Romania is composed of two great regional complexes, linked by the Carpathian arch: one inside the arch, bordered by a mountainous defence wall (Maramures and Transilvania) and the other one outside the arch (Crisana, Banat, Bucovina, Moldova, Oltenia, Muntenia and Dobrogea).

Travelling on the Romanian territory, besides the richeness of the landscape and folk creations which can be admired, the tourist will be also in touch with the customs of the Romanian people - directly by participating in some celebrations, prayers in the churches, weddings, christenings or burrials. So, dear tourist, travel all over the country, look around you, visit but also ask and analyse everthing what it can be seen and heard around you. You will not regret that you had even visited only a part of this country - ROMANIA.
