For some time now, the Flemish community in Romania has been quite active.
Since last year April, several events took place:
 
We restarted the (bi-monthly) sponsoring of the ‘Borrel der Lage Landen’, the socialising event for Dutch speakers.
 
A successful musselsdinner for 240 participants (november 2007)
An exquisite Cheese and Wine event (May 2008).
 
Also the Walloon and Brussels community organized several events:

• dinner with mussels "mosselfestijn"
• wine tasting

 
Although these initiatives were organized by a separate Belgian community, it is clear that they share a common interest. 
Therefore, a new initiative kicked off: the monthly (first Monday) Happy Hour for the Belgian expatriate community in Romania.
 
The purpose of this 19h00 to 21h30 drink is to offer our compatriots the possibility to

• meet Belgian colleagues and benefit from existing experience
• meet possible Belgian business partners
• meet foreign (non-Belgian) business partners
• network

The ‘Belgian Happy Hour’ will be hosted at one of the best locations in town: the Novotel City Plaza (parking foreseen!).  Beside the location, Novotel is also sponsoring tapas in between your conversations...

We had a successful launch of the event last June.  For our 3 Belgian communities to get acquainted, we will repeat the ‘internal’ Belgian Happy Hour the first Monday of July.  As from September (indeed, due to vacation period, August will remain quiet), the Belgians will invite other nationalities.

In September we will focus on the Romanian business people.  In the near future, we’ll publish a list of the next ‘nationalities’ to be invited.

Further, we also foresee some tickets for a concert close to the year end: one of our Belgian best export groups will join us in Bucharest for a sparkling event. BC will support the organization and BC will invite the business community with a personalized invitation for this special event.

And of course, we have a  “musselsdiner” in December. For this mega event we count on at least 200 people that BC will invite personally.
